What do you call 20 Celsius in Delhi?

-WINTER!!!

There is no season of fall, nor people are wearing any furry coats, or sitting by the fireplace or even putting the heaters out, but guess what, winter is here (almost) :D

A keen nip in the air arrives as soon as October begins, which I like to refer to as our mini autumn. Trees might shed leaves because of the pollution or none at all, but the gush of cold breeze after a lull of summer, is the harbinger of festive season when there is joy in exploring the city.

But wait, if it is still mini autumn in October (about 30-35 Celsius) , then how do we know when is it winter in Delhi?

  • It is 20 degrees!!
  • You can’t see 50 meters ahead, it is fog already. No, silly, it is the smog. The air above Delhi is so cool, it absorbs the pollution of cities from near by and gives us make believe early winters, except that this one keeps us in.
  • First signs of winter chills come from the official mischievous mascot of the season, toilet pots.
  • We in Delhi, start wearing sweater after feeling cold and then, soon start feeling warm. (kya karein kya na karein yeh kaisi mushkil Haye!/ with or without you… ) So then we only wear sweaters when hitting the pot ;)
  • In case parents are around and irrespective of the fact if you have caught the cold/cough /viral (because weather change, duh!), mummy says beta sweater pehnlo

(the following video is there if you don’t know what I mean :p)

  • When (after the smog is gone) finally most of the people in Delhi start saying, weather is so good outside. We literally come out of our summer slumber /hibernation of sorts and families can been seen crowding at India Gate for picnics in the sun.
  • There are no more water bottles in the fridge and mummy keeps it at room temperature. So we may occasionally use the ice to cool it or sneak the water bottle in the fridge. (And mummy takes it out again later and the cycle repeats until it is 15 degrees and we genuinely feel very cold!) :P

In Delhi we are mostly very particular about two things, our metro and the weather.

Now that I already wrote about the metro (here), I thought I must share that the beginning of those four months are here, when Delhi is beautifully and vibrantly cold.
